Letter of Intention
As far as I have been told I have been drawing all my life. I have always wanted to tell stories through different medias such as drawing, painting, writing, photography and sculpting.
To the right (-->) there is a picture of me holding a masterpiece of a drawing. I was about 4 years old and went to kindergarten in the best part of København; Nørrebro, where I grew up.
I have gotten way better at drawing since then but I have not gotten any cuter. I think at this age I peaked on the cuteness-o-meter.
My motivation towards drawing and expressing myself never let me down, so in after-school care I did a 13 volume comic on Ray Man. And it is still glorious. When I was younger I never really cared much about spelling and that sure shows in those comics. Instead I focused on drawing.

Hello there,
My name is Anne Holmgaard Bomholt, I am 21 years old, and I am applying for the Graphic Storytelling Program at The Animation Workshop.

You can find my portfolio here: https://annebomholt.wixsite.com/portfolio or: http://annebomholtportfolio.tumblr.com/
I am so fortunate to have really creative people around me, they inspire and push me forward. Especially those closest to me: my parents, little brother and my boyfriend. Also my best friends, some of which I met during TDA, fall semester in 2015.
We are all affected by our surroundings and have a big love for being outside and exploring the great mysteries of the world. Observing other cultures and feeling another city's pulse is amazing. I love experiencing cultures and traditions from other cuntries. It gives me perspective to my own and others lives and interests. For these reasons I have traveled a lot. I have conquered land from north to south Asia and east to west Europe. I also traveled the US a couple of times, but have yet to discover beautiful and fascinating places in Africa and many other places.

When I started TDA I had the best semester I could ever dream of, and I wish someone would sponsor me so I could take it a hundred times more. I chose Maja Vendelbo as my teacher and I am so glad I did. I learned so much about myself and my drawing skills, but also about other people. I have made close friends coming from around the world, with different backgrounds, and different mind-sets, but we got so close, that even with long distances separating us, we still find ways to see or be with each other. For the time being Roskilde Festival is where we get to see each other, go to great concerts, drink beverages and doing the boogie. (I have attended Roskilde this summer, for the sixth time!)

I am applying for the Graphic Storytelling Program in the hopes of getting to explore new worlds of illustration and drawing. I am really excited to learn more about the process of telling stories and making good comics, working with contrast, composition, color and the flow of the eye around the page. One of the things I find most fascinating is the feeling you get to create in your comic or drawing. Trying to make someone feel happy or sad or excited through silent pictures is really hard, but really interesting.
The movies I usually fall for, are those who can make me feel melancholy or tearful. Like The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Bear (In danish: Drengen Der Gjorde Det Umulige), Song of The Sea and all of Studio Ghibli’s movies. Also comics like Hell Boy, Tekkonkinkreet (both movie and comic) and also Tim Burton’s The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy & Other Stories. I have a thing for the more gloomy comics. I am appealed by the simple comics and illustrations by Tom Gauld and the amazing work of Mike Mignola.
My dad has a huge comic collection that keeps expanding, so whenever he buys more, he shows it to me. He introduced me to Tom Gauld and Mike Mignola. Jason who made Sshhhh! and The Left Bank Gang has a style I adore as well. These three artists all have the same in common which is a very simple but expressive drawing style.
As for something I dislike, most manga comics. I have a soft spot for Naruto and Dragon Ball, but usually it is not something that I want to read.
I believe there is a growing interest towards digital interactive comics. This is not necessarily the line of work I want to do, but I find it very interesting. There are already some who have made games that resembles comics. Where comics and computer games go hand in hand. Games like The Wolf Among Us where you get to deside actions, questions and answers. The game has different endings depending on you actions.

In the future I want to be a freelance illustrator, working for different magazines and newspapers and doing my own thing on the side. It would be a dream come true if I got to work at a studio where the atmosphere, the community, everything would be inspiring. I feel ready to be a part of The Animation Workshop which I know like the back of my hand. I am ready to give it 200 percent.
I plan to work full time until school starts and finance the education myself combined with SU. I already have an agreement with Bog & Idé and I have personal savings.
